HOW DID YOU GET STARTED BLOGGING?
I have always loved journaling, projecting and creating, and when I started staying home full time with my kids, blogging became a creative outlet for me to provide some home and organizational tips. It started as a way for me to spend my spare seconds bonding with a community that shares similar passions, and over the years it grew into so much more. One small feature lead to another, and as I continued to blog faithfully, my audience grew as well. The blog also lead to me opening an online Etsy shop, and between writing, running the shop and working with amazing magazines and brands, I have found myself in a position to stay home with my kids, while also being able to provide an income to help support our family. I have never felt more excited or passionate about what I do, and I am thankful for the opportunity each and every day.
You can read more details regarding my blogging journey within the posts below:

Blogging: The Bread & Butter of the Blog
WHO DESIGNED YOUR BLOG?
I started the blog on the Blogger platform in 2009 using the "Simple" blog template, and have been designing, tweaking and making updates to it ever since. I have found the Blogger template to be fairly user friendly, and many of the items on the sidebar have been added through the widget feature or by inserting simple HTML codes (I create the graphic and insert it as an image or an HTML table). In 2014, I worked with the ultra talented Angela from Saffron Avenue, and she designed a beautiful new logo for iHeart Organizing and I couldn't love it more, I highly recommend her design services.
WHAT KIND OF CAMERA DO YOU USE?
About a year into blogging, I used a Canon Rebel XSi paired with the Canon kit 18-55 mm lens and the Tamron 28-75 mm lens. I also love my little nifty fifty lens. I recently upgraded to the Canon 5D Mark II and have never looked back. I have a love for photography and I am rarely seen without my camera hanging from my neck, and having a blog has really given me the opportunity to learn a lot about picture taking as I continue to grow my skills. You can read more about my photography equipment and tips here.
WHAT KIND OF SOFTWARE DO YOU USE TO CREATE YOUR PRINTABLES?
Working in a corporate industry for many years, I became a bit of a spreadsheet wizard and fell madly in love with Microsoft Excel. Self taught with the guidance of the Microsoft "help" button, I found out that Excel had more capabilities than I ever thought possible and began making printables, labels and lists galore. So in the beginning of my printable designing journey, many were created with Microsoft Office 2010. I recently designed my 2015 Daily Planner Printables using Microsoft Publisher, and have found that to be even more enjoyable to work with. I love to learn and try new software, but for now, those are my "go to" programs.
I CAN'T DOWNLOAD THE FREE HOUSEHOLD BINDER KIT FROM 2011, WHAT IS THE DEAL?
I am sorry sweet friends. The binder downloads were free for one month only, as a special promo while I was working on the project with my readers. They are now available in my shop and are one of the primary ways I am able contribute to supporting my family, so I appreciate your understanding in regards to the expired free trial. I do offer a variety of free printables, which you can find here, and hope to continue to expand that feature in the future!
WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR... ?
You can find all of our home product sources by checking out our Home Tour page.
I recently added many of the product sources below each image, as well as majority of the paint colors we have used throughout our home on the walls and for our DIY projects.
WHERE DO YOU FIND YOUR CUTE FONTS?
All over the www. A few of my favorite sites to browse are: Font Squirrel, My Fonts, Dafont, 1001FreeFonts, Urban Fonts and Lost Type.
WHAT KIND OF PRINTER DO YOU USE?
I print a lot of documents and labels, so I invested in a laser printer. I was lucky enough to find my current printer on black Friday so I got a great deal! It’s the HP LaserJet CP1525nw color and so far I love it! Prior to having a laserjet printer, I had a HP Photosmart printer which was great for projects around the house. Depending on your price point, I’ve found that most HP photosmart printers are excellent for high quality printing.
WHAT KIND OF LABEL MAKER DO YOU USE?
I use this label maker. the Epson LabelWorks LW-400. I combine it with the clear tape {since I like the streamlined look it offers}. The label maker offers many font sizes and types and I also find that it is very user friendly. You can find more details here.
You can also find out more about the labels we use around our home by following the Labeling 101 series here.
Thanks so much and feel free to check back frequently to find more answers to those burning IHeart Organizing questions.

FAQs
I get a lot of emails from renters looking for organizing and styling advice, mainly because much of the rented space cannot be tampered with. Today's reader is a renter, and she gave her son's closet an incredible makeover using a mixture of big box store items and dollar store bins to create a closet that is boasting in storage now, but could be taken with her when she leaves.

Thanks for all of the useful information, ever since I came across your blog it inspired me to be more aware of organization. Although I have always been a clean and neat freak, organization has become a new hobby and sense of life for me. I have always enjoyed organizing, it just never occurred to me that it could be considered a talent.
So we are renters, and we cannot make any renovations in our 800 square foot basement, nor paint or personalize in a huge way. Fortunately, we love to innovate in the spaces we live, so that our spaces reflect who we are as a family, and give it our personal touch. I have been working on my son's bedroom lately, well a lot, and his little but cute closet is completely done, finally! Here is what it used to look like.
Everything was crowded, and un-organized, I had a hard time finding things, and all of those bags on the top shelf were all old clothes that Nolan had grown out of.
Let's take a closer look at the final outcome of the deliciously organized closet:
I had to throw that last photo in there of the cute little shoes all lined up. Sigh. So sweet right?
Pretty special right?

It just wasn't a pretty sight to see. I did a lot of research on how I could make the most out of this tiny little space. I already had the Expedit from IKEA, so it made sense to use it, notice how small the closet is, because the Expedit fits perfectly inside. I found these super cool and amazing striped baskets I purchased from The Container Store, at $9.99 each. I fell in love with them when I first saw them on the 2012 HGTV Green Home Tour.
I purchased the clear bins at IKEA for $3 a pop. I got the red containers at the $1 store, yay!
Thanks Jen!

- Nothing done in this closet is permanent. Adding storage in the form of a bookcase or dresser is a great way for renters to maximize closet space.
- Renter or home owner, this storage rocks regardless! Love that the clothes are now sorted by age and in simple bins. Much easier than digging through bags!
- Since she can't paint the closet, she brought in color through fabulous bins!
- The labels weren't just done by a label maker, she went above and beyond to make them pretty!
- The storage is a mixture of more expensive higher end pieces from The Container Store, inexpensive options from the dollar store and using furniture she already had. She really achieved a good balance when working on the project and maximizing storage on a budget!
- She implemented a system that will be easy to maintain, and also one that her son can grow with.
Pretty special right?

One thing I love to do oh so much, is give something old and dated, a whole new purposeful life! Whether a piece of furniture or a leftover soup can, anything I can turn into functional and pretty storage is a giant win for me! So imagine my excitement when I received a note from Jennifer looking for ideas for her old component cart.
Jenn wrote:
Nothing better than taking something ugly and making it beautiful and functional! Here is the component cabinet in question:
There is no doubt that the cabinet needs a little love, but with a little paint and primer and maybe even some decorative paper and cool casters, it just may be the little cabinet that could.
When thinking about using it in a child's bedroom, my first thought was maybe as a side table to hold books!
Or a great place to stash games!
I love that she mentioned that it really could be used anywhere in the home. Oh the possibilities!
What about in the kitchen as a baking cart?
Or beverage cart?
Possibly a serving station:
Maybe in a home office as a laptop/printer/bill paying station?
Or as a craft cart!
And with a lot of creativity, maybe it could even be transformed into a super sweet wrapping station!
Is it weird that a little piece of me wants to hop onto Craigslist to find an old component cabinet to makeover? And to think we donated ours years ago without thinking through all of the potential first.
Thanks to Jenn for writing in! Who has been giving new storage life to really old and dated furniture? Any other suggestions or ideas for Jenn?

I have this old stereo component cabinet that my 8 year old wants to use for storage in his bedroom; however, it is SO UGLY. Do you have any advice for me on what this can be used for?? It does not have to be for my son. It can be for any room of the house. The front and top are glass and both open.
I love your blog and all your creative, organizational ideas. I am a loyal reader everyday.
Thanks for any advice that you might have.
Jenn

IHeart Answering - Painting - Storage Solutions
When I started blogging two and a half years ago, one of the main intentions was to not only keep friends and family updated on our DIY home projects and organizing tips and tricks, but to also share updates on my blogging journey. Many days I get so wrapped up excited to share organizing projects, house updates and amazing things I find that you all do, that I don't stop and take a moment to share all of the extremely important milestones {and even the hard moments} that are happening along the way.
This last month I have had the pleasure to be included in a quite a few fabulous features. One really fun opportunity was hosting Nickelodeon's ParentsConnect.com Spring Cleaning Party!
My kid's thought I was the coolest mom EVER to be contacted by Nickelodeon, and although the day is over, you can still pop on over and read all sorts of tidbits about how we have fun with spring cleaning and ways we even get our kids involved. It was a really fun experience and I had a blast reading the responses from the readers that participated in the days events!
I am also proud to share that I was included on a list of amazing home and DIY blogs!
When you get a spare second {or many spare seconds}, I highly recommend checking out "the list". I am blushing to be included with so many of my most favorite bloggers, and I think it's fantastic that so many great links are located in one central place!
Because I am a nerdy small town girl, being noticed and mentioned by a celebrity is a pretty surreal moment.
My husband fell in love with me all over again when he found out that his high school 90210 crush mentioned my artwork display project on her blog.
Another sweet moment for me this last month was being contacted by the kind folks over at BHG! Consider me smitten to be a new "Pinning Pro" over on their Pinterest pages, which means I have the opportunity to pin directly to their really inspirational boards which you can find here and here.
Yes, I am still pinching myself, Better Homes & Gardens is my fav magazine ever so this is quite the honor!
And speaking of pinch me moments combined with my favorite magazine, I was also invited to be a contributor on the new Better Homes and Gardens Style Spotters Blog!
I have been reading Better Homes and Gardens magazine since I was 7, so to be asked to now contribute to their site can go down as one of the coolest moments throughout this whole blogging journey. Just look at these lovely ladies! It sure is a pretty incredible group of fellow bloggers to spot styles with!
Yeah... I am still wrapping my brain around the awesomeness...
The new blog focuses on some really great categories, such as DIY-ify, From Runway to Color Palette, Get the Look, I Spy and Just In. You can find my first post here, in which I get to spot and source storage solutions within a beautiful space. Isn't the inspiration photo incredible?
I know I have said it before, but I don't get to say it enough, so THANK YOU my dear friends for all of your continuous daily support! None of these "blog proud" moments would have happened without you keeping this blog alive. I am one blessed gal and so very grateful to have you all to call my friends. Two years ago when I started blogging, I never thought it would grow to what it is today. Before I get too mushy and sappy, I will move on...
Can you believe the holiday weekend is already here? We are looking forward to unplugging and spending time together as a family. It also means that there are only a few weeks left and the kiddos will be home from school for the summer! I honestly can't wait for all of the summer fun {and projects too} that we have planned! Blogging may slow down a smidge as I focus on the boys being home full time during the next couple of months, however, I have all sorts of exciting ideas up my sleeve and will still be popping in a few times per week with organizing goodness. Of course I also have a slew of fab giveaways lined up and you always leave me speechless with your inspiring reader spaces {so keep on submitting!!}
So what are you up to this weekend? Are you ready for summer to get here already? What "pinch me" moments have you had lately?

Psssst.... Such an overwhelming feeling of butterflies in my tummy. Chock that up as one more "pinch me now" moments for the month. Wow, I do heart the month of May!

Chris & Tracey once heard someone say that the idea of organizing photographs was about as enticing as swallowing cod liver oil! That comment inspired them to do everything they could to make the process easier and more enjoyable. That, and the fact {by their own admission} that they felt completely out of control with their own piles of photographs!
After that, Chris & Tracey went on a frantic search for solutions and came up empty handed, they set out to create their own. They knew they needed something that was super easy to use and covered all the bases at once. {Translation: it had to be safe for their photographs so they'd be organizing and preserving at the same time AND it had to allow them to record their memories right then and there because they knew they'd never "get back to it".} The result? Photo Pockets archival photo-journaling envelopes.

My pal Holly Bohn is the Founder and Creative Director of See Jane Work.
Yes we are busy, but we can still have fun. And we can still express our individuality. That is why See Jane Work was born. They know you don't have time to search every website that comes up on Google looking for a notebook that says a little more about you than, "I got a coupon in the mail from Office Mart." You want something that says, "I am unique. I have style. I will not wear sweatpants to a meeting with a client ever again, no matter how late I am running."
They feel inspiration comes a little easier to those writing their thoughts in a pink leather journal rather than on the back of an envelope.
See Jane Work appreciates your business, so much so that they have created Jane's Rewards; a way for you to earn points doing what you love... shopping at seejanework.com.

Buttoned Up, Inc. was founded in 2004 by four women, three sisters and a best friend...
They realized the necessity for a tool like Life.doc after experiencing significant life changes − from moving across the country to setting up house after 9/11 to getting divorced after 38 years of marriage to having kids and grand-kids.
Of course, as soon as they solved that dilemma, another presented itself. They realized that sometimes the best tools aren't enough. Sometimes you need inspiration, support and step-by-step guidelines. So they created the "Save Your Photos and Your Sanity" e-book, which has already helped more than 3,000 people with its humorous, lighthearted approach.
You CAN organize, preserve and enjoy your photo collection -- without losing your mind! Visit www.organizedphotos.com
Chris & Tracey have put together a very special offer for readers of IHeart Organizing. For the next three days only, you can purchase the Jump Start Photo Organizing Kit at a 30% discount AND receive an additional bonus gift -- the "Save Your Photos & Your Sanity" e-book {retail: $27} -- for no additional cost! That means you can receive over $114 worth of supplies for just $64.95!
You won't find this special on their regular website. You'll need to visit the page they've set up exclusively for IHeart Organizing readers.
See Jane Work has a new line available exclusively at Office Depot!

Here's how:
Michelle has created a plan to cook all 5 dinners for the week in just ONE hour. All the menu plans have family friendly meals that feed 4-6 people and no, they are not all casseroles.
The meals are fresh, not frozen. They keep in your refrigerator until ready to heat and eat!
You could spend one hour on a Saturday or Sunday preparing 5 meals for your busy week!! Yep, it only costs you the cost of the groceries and the one hour time investment, and you have meals for the whole week! Done!
Not only does the fact that you can make 5 dinners in one hour sound incredible, but nothing is better than coming home from work and having your dinner already prepared before you run off to that kiddo's sporting event or music lesson. It saves money on eating out and causes so much less stress in trying to find time to feed your family on a busy work/school night! This is such music to this mom's ears I tell you!!!

Each of them felt the need to get their lives organized but were unable to find products that could help them control their chaos. They wanted to be liberated from the rigid organizational systems that they bought annually and stopped using after just a few weeks.
After several years of trial, error, effort and research, they started Buttoned Up whose mission is to give women the tools they need to live an organized life not a life of organization.
